So I’ve been trying to lose some weight for a while. My bishop refers to men of my stature as “Substantial Men,” which is a wonderful euphemism, but it does seem (with his encouragement as well as the formators here at the seminary) that I would be well served to be a wee bit less substantial. To give myself credit where it is deserved, though, I started this before I was even applying to seminary.
I am starting about 50 pounds down from where I was in the beginning of 2010. I have started to try to lose weight three times since I have been in seminary with more or less devotion to the plan each time. This is round 4 – the goal is to lose at least another 50 pounds this time around. I’m going to be doing a reasonable amount of (ugh) exercising and physical activity and eating reasonable amounts. If you care to follow along, this is where you can see my current numbers.
Update: I’m not doing a reasonable amount of exercise. I am doing an insane amount of exercise. I’m working under advisement from someone who does fitness way better than I do. So, I’m swimming at least a mile 5 days a week. Those days that the weather does not permit that, I’m in the gym at the seminary for 30-60 minutes. I am also eating properly, which means my love of lots of exciting food is having to go unfulfilled. The updates to the weight are going to be less frequent than my weekly weigh-in. There’ll be an update something akin to once a month.
